Can Sterling Sliver Earrings (pierced) Leave Black Marks In Your Earring Hole?

I just got some new sterling dangly earrings, I now have black marks around my earring holes… is this alright with silver? They are a bit heavy, I’m thinking that may be the cause of the black marks. I usually wear just stud earrings (sterling silver).
Has this ever happened to anyone (especially with High-end jewelry such as Tiffany & Co)?
