Air Bag Suspension?

I own a chrysler new yorker 1988 landau edition and the rear uses air bag suspension and after 15 seconds of turning the car on you can hear the air compressor kick on and its kind of loud to lift the car up to a comfortable lever i took the car in and they said there were no leaks anywhere and its supposed to do that so that if there was more weight in the back the compressor would kick on to lift the back but if you think about it when this car was new who would buy a luxury type car that made a loud noise after turning it on is there a way for the compressor to work but without a annoying noise?Air Bag Suspension?
